Let me beginning by saying I'm not an expert, however I have some knowledge.

Models and photographers need to know the different styles of adult photography.

Implied Photographs: strongly suggested/inferred that a model is Topless, Bottomless or Nude. Normally a model is cover by his or her hands, decorations, fabric and/or a object.

Topless Photographs: The Model is without his or her top on exposing the chest or breast.

- I hear a lot of females models say, "I do Playboy Style Nudes" and she has never even looked at the Magazine. What is Playboy style nudes? High Fashion, Lingerie, elegant in scene and/or content. They believe that a model in Playboy doesn't open her legs in photos. REALLY BAD misconception. I've been looking at Playboy for over 30 years. Trust me, the models do take open legs photos, however they are done in a tasteful manner. I've had amateur models tell me that open legs is a "pink spread" and I had to say "no it's not".

Well, lets get into Adult/Erotic Nude Photographs and "pink spreads". A "pink spread" is when a model uses her finger(s), hand(s) and/or object to open her vagina. Or she gets into a position that her vagina spread open. This is what you would see in more Erotic Magazines.

I believe models need to know the difference when he or she is contacting a photographer and begins to discuss what he or she will or won't do in photographs. This will eliminate a lot of misunderstanding during a photo session.

I'll make sure I keep Magazines with me, for those models that need to see the difference.

I hope this assist photographers and models alike, in setting up a proper photo session. Speaking the proper lingo in any profession, will make things go smoother.

Paid or Trade Photography Sessions

Photographers and Models,

I think there is a little misunderstanding about "Paid" and "Trade" type photo sessions; Models and "some" photographers need to understand the difference. I know there are models out here that think if they get paid for a photo session, they are entitled to photographs. This is a misconception that needs to be straighten out.

If a photographer "pays a model", he or she is work product and NOT entitled to 1 photograph from the photo session. When you are consider "Work Product", the Photographer OWNS all of the photographs.

If a model "pays a photographer", he/she and the photographer should discuss the photo shoot that the "MODEL" wants. They can and should discuss; how much the session will cost, how many looks, duration, photos and how many "edited", if any, photos will be given after the photo session. The photographer still owns the "RIGHTS" but not how the photographs can/will be used and should be given "Credit".

If a photographer and model work "TRADE", they can/should discuss a photo shoot that would best benefit both of their photo portfolios. For a Trade photo session, I like to collaborate with the model and get his or her input. With that input, he or her and I, can visualize the photo session and make it come to life.

After the photo session, if time allows, I like for the model and I to look through the photographs. I want the model to choose those that he or she wants. This eliminates objections about the photos from the model. I do however, limit TF photo session to 5 - 10 edited photos per scene/outfit change. This is dependent on how many scenes/outfit changes we have. The model will get photographs for his or her book without a watermark and some with watermarks for online portfolio usage.

If a model want his or her portfolios to grow, either Pay a photographer or work Trade with one. Getting paid for a photo session, should not and might not "grow you portfolio".

How Photo Shoots Evolve

Just wanted to expression how a photo shoot can evolve into more than discussed or anticipated.

I have found in all of my years of photography, that having a Relaxed, Fun and Free Spirited photo session can become more than a model or photographer expected. Once a model is comfortable and feels safe, he or she, she normally, will come out of their shell/comfort zone and will make and take fantastic photos.

Normally the first few photos can be a challenge, however getting and having a calm and relaxed model can and will make a world of difference in the quality of photographs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, just stay calm, cool and come prepared.

Take and make the BEST photographs possible.

Is Modesty and Modeling an Oxymoron?

I was setting up a photo shoot with a model and initially I wanted to do a sport/athletic shoot. It was going to consist of Yoga type shorts and a sport's Bra top and then some shots in a mid thigh skirt, bikini top and blouse.

Well she told me, she was too modest and did not want to wear the shorts; they would show too much "Butt Cheek". This is the photo I sent her. YEAH, that's what I said!!!!

So I said okay, let's just do the shorts, skirts and tops. Then on Friday, the day before the shoot, she tells me that she can't do the bikini top and blouse. Similar to this photo!!!

Also, she mention the wearing the shorts was a bit much... similar to these shorts. (above).

I must admit. I'm glad she told me before the shoot then during. I would have been pretty "Pissed", if this happened during the shoot. Especially, since I was "PAYING" her for this shoot.

I just curious is "Modesty and Modeling" an Oxymoron?

Basically I told her, "That being a model and modesty is an Oxymoron". Considering the shoot we were going to do. NO IMPLIED or NUDITY at all. Just similar to the photos I have posted in this blog.

Models and Photo Shoots

I've been a photographer and taking photographs for over 20 years. Over the last 10 years, I have made it a "Business" and no longer a "hobby". For years, I took photos of models with the only requirement; that he or she either paid for film development or for a little more than a the price of , " Burger Chain's Value meal", a Compact Disc/CD.

I would shoot until my film ran out and until recently, until my memory card had filled up. I realize that my time, for my "Artistic Ability", had a value. Models were getting tear sheets and promotional work. CSDewitt Studios at that time, was left with not being recognized.

With this said, let's move to Toady and present.

To the models that approach CSDewitt Photography for Trade/Time for Prints/CD work, we want to know your theme, location and how this will benefit our company and portfolio. Please remember TFP, DOES NOT give you access to all of the photos taken during the shoot.

I believe this is a false illusion that some models, new and old, have about TFP shoots.

For TFP work, CSDewitt Photography has a set amount and size of photographs that you will receive. This is include in the company's model release. CSDewitt Photography's Model Release will be agreed to and sign before any photo shoot will be schedule.

Paid work, gets you a predetermined amount of photographs from the shoot. That's if you are paying CSDewitt Photography or CSDewitt Photography is paying you.

I recommend that a model does his or her homework before they schedule any photo session with a Photographer. Check his or hers references; contact models who have previously worked with the photographer for their opinion on him or her.

When deciding to work with a photographer compare styles and levels. There is no point in going to a shoot having expectations and you are disappointed during and/or after the shoot.

When shooting, the two most important things are to relax and be comfortable. A photograph not only shows a model's exterior persona, but it also captures the emotion(s) that a model displays. I know for some, it's easier said than done, but the key is to communicate with the photographer prior to the shoot. Talk about the shoot; the concept, get to know a little more about him or her. Do not get into a personal conversation. Remember, this is a "business" transaction and not a social visit.

Don't be afraid to bring along a chaperone/escort. We personally recommend it. If a photographer requests that no chaperone/escort is permitted, I would recommend not shooting with him or her. However, many models are happy to shoot without a chaperone/escort and that is their choice. I would definitely advise/recommend it for new models and first photo shoots with a photographer. CSDewitt Photography, reserved the right to stop a shoot and/or ask your chaperone/escort to leave, if not, stop the shoot completely.

Always be prepared for your shoot!!!! Make sure you have more than enough wardrobe, some props your make up. Many times a shoot will evolve into more than planned.

Whenever shooting Artistic Nudes outdoors, remember to wear something which is easy and quick to take off and place back on. The last thing a model want is to be fumbling around trying to get clothes off or back on. This is when your chaperone/escort comes in handy.

After the shoot, ensure you have contact details for the photographer and make sure he or she has your address. This is to ensure that you are able to receive the disc or prints.

High Quality Camera and Photo Print Size

Some conditions necessary for obtaining high quality large prints from your digital camera

1. The images should be captured using a high quality camera that preferably has a large sensor (as discussed below).

2. The camera should have a high quality lens.

3. The images should look sharp, in focus, and of high quality when enlarged to 100% in an imaging program.

4. The printer and photographic paper should be of high quality.

5. The images should be printed at no less than 150 pixels per inch (as discussed below).

6. The distance from which most people will view the prints is also a factor in determining the maximum acceptable print sizes. The further the distance from which you view the prints, the less you will notice small defects in the prints.

Use of a high quality camera with a large sensor

An image from a small compact camera does not capture as much fine detail as an image from a digital single lens reflex camera ( DSLR), because the DSLR has a larger sensor. The larger sensor of a DSLR enables each pixel to be larger than is possible with a smaller compact camera. Therefore, the images from a 12 megapixel DSLR will contain more fine detail than would be the case with the images from a 12 megapixel small compact camera.

A full frame camera, such as the Sony A900, has a sensor size of approximately 36 mm x 24 mm, which provides images with approximately 24.6 megapixels. With an aspect ratio of 3:2, the image size from the Sony A900 is 6048 pixels x 4032 pixels. If you multiply 6048 by 4032, this gives an indication of the megapixel rating of the camera.

Note that many DSLRs use a smaller sensor, known as APS-C, which has a size of approximately 22 mm × 15 mm (approx. 60% of the size of the sensor in a full frame camera). Therefore, a full frame camera, such as the Sony A900, can capture more fine detail than a DSLR with an APS-C sensor. Click here to read more about the basics of digital camera pixels.

Calculating the print size

The width of the print can be calculated using the following formula:

Width of print = number of pixels width of image divided by required pixels per inch (ppi)

The same formula is used to calculate the height of the print, but substitute the word "height" in place of the word "width" in the above formula!

For example, because the image size of the 24.6 megapixel Sony A900 (with an aspect ratio of 3:2) is 6048 pixels x 4032 pixels, when the image is printed at 150 ppi, the print size is a huge 40.32 inches x 26.88 inches (6048 / 150 and 4032 / 150). However, if the image is printed at 200 ppi, the print size is reduced to 30.24 inches x 20.16 inches.

With a 10.3 megapixel camera, the image size (with an aspect ratio of 3:2) is 3888 pixels x 2592 pixels. If the image is printed at 150 ppi, the print size is 25.92 inches x 17.28 inches. If the image is printed at 200 ppi, the print size is reduced to 19.44 inches x 12.96 inches.

However, note the point mentioned above, that a very large print from a 12 megapixel camera that has a small sensor, will not be of the same quality as a print from a 12 megapixel DSLR camera that has a large sensor. Therefore, the Sony A700 12 megapixel DSLR, which has a large sensor (23.5mm x 15.6mm) can produce very good large prints. The controversy surrounding the number of pixels per inch needed to obtain high quality prints

In the above example, the pixels per inch were 150. However, it has often been suggested that, when printing an image from a digital camera, the resolution should be at least 300 pixels per inch (ppi), or even higher, say, 350 ppi or 360 ppi.

For example, if an image from the Sony A900 with a size of 6048 pixels x 4032 pixels is printed at 300 ppi, then the print size is only 20.16 inches x 13.44 inches. However, it may be extremely difficult with the naked eye to notice much difference in print quality between an image printed at 300 ppi and the same image printed at, say, 150 ppi or 200 dpi.

This conclusion is supported in an article by Gary Gray titled: "The 300 DPI Print Myth - The 300 dpi Myth Field Report". Gray suggests that the need to use 300 dpi is a myth and that even at 150 dots per inch (dpi), you can get a usable and good quality print. Click here to read Gray's article.

This topic was also discussed in some depth in June 2009 by contributors to the "Sony SLR Talk" forum on the web site of "Digital Photography Review (DPR)". Click here to see this discussion thread. There was general agreement that, even when the pixels per inch of a print are as low as 150 ppi, a good quality print can be obtained. One contributor reported that he has obtained excellent quality 36 inch x 24 inch prints from images captured by the Sony A900 (click here to read this posting).

Note that the terms "pixels per inch" (ppi) and "dots per inch" (dpi), are often used interchangeably. However, click here or here toread good articles about the differences between "ppi" and "dpi". It seems desirable to use at least 150 ppi, and possibly as high as 200 ppi, to get good quality prints from digital images. In these circumstances, the maximum usable print width for images from the Sony A900, is somewhere between 30 inches and 40 inches.

Practical tests for determining the maximum print size

In practice, before finalising an important large print, it is often useful, in the first instance, to make test prints of just small parts of the image.

For example, click here to see examples of crops that have been made of just small areas of some images taken by the Sony A900 camera. If you print just the cropped area of an image that has been saved at high quality, this will give you a good indication of the maximum print size that can be achieved for that image.

For example, when testing whether an image that is 6048 pixels wide will make a successful 40 inch wide print, it may pay, in the first instance, to print, say, one quarter of the width of the image at a width of 10 inches, and then determine whether this print is acceptable. If this result is not satisfactory, then further tests with print sizes of say, 8 inches or 6 inches can be made. For example, if one quarter of an image prints out successfully at a maximum width of 6 inches, then the maximum width of the whole print will be 24 inches.

Upscaling digital camera images

The purpose of upsizing digital camera images is to use interpolation software that can increase the number of pixels in an image so that larger and / or better quality prints can be obtained.

For example, assume that the dimensions of a Sony A900 digital image before upscaling, are 6048 pixels x 4032 pixels. If this image is printed at 150 ppi, then the print size is 40.3 inches x 26.9 inches.

Now, if interpolation software is used to upscale this image by 50%, its revised dimensions are 9072 pixels x 6048 pixels. If this image is printed at 150 ppi, then the print size is increased by 50% to 60.5 inches x 40.3 inches.

Image stitching

Instead of upscaling a single image, an alternative way of producing a very large print is to use a computer program to "stitch" several different images together. When this technique is used, the photographer could, for example, capture each image using a 70mm lens, rather than using, say, a wide angle 24 mm lens.

For example, the photographer may need to use a 24 mm lens to capture a single image of a very wide panoramic landscape. However, stitching together several images captured with a 70 mm lens, would probably produce a large panoramic image that has much more fine detail than could be obtained by making an upscaled image of a single image of a panoramic landscape that was captured using a 24mm lens.

Model's Comp and Zedcards

When models first start out on their quest to make income, they usually hit that "Let me see your portfolio" wall.

Its the first goal of all beginning models. Some models can get a portfolio together in a few days, others take years and are never really satisfied with it. A Portfolio, is the book of you, it is your pride an joy that you take with you to meet clients. It has nothing to do with an online portfolio, but it is the one that will make you money.

First, let's talk about what goes into a successful portfolio. Minimum, 8 different looks of you. DIFFERENT meaning, different outfits and locations for every look.

Your make-up should be professionally done for EVERY photo, if not you need to know how to do "camera" make-up. A "clean" look is the best way of getting noticed, leave the heavy and "artfull" make-up for later.

Modeling is about selling something, not usually you. At a cost of $300 to $400 per look, it can get expensive to complete a portfolio. If you have an incomplete portfolio when you sign with an agency, they will usually either turn you away or have you shoot with their photographer, at a good rate.

Your "looks" should have at least:
a Nice Dress shot ( Something you would go to church in)
a Blue jean shot
a Sexy Dress ( Not Slutty, more like cocktail dress)
a Swimsuit shot (full body standing)
a Product shot ( you displaying something)
a HEADSHOT (your best headshot)

The rest are up to you. Make sure you obtain the rights to use these photos from the photographer. In writing, because one day when you want to reprint a few at Walgreens or wherever, they are going to ask you for the Copyright release.

Unless you pay the photographer and agree to in writing before the shoot, the photographer does and always will own the rights to the photograph.

Assemble in a nice book and add to it as you get more and more photos.

Compcards and Zedcards, will usually make you more money than anything. You will hand these out like oversized business cards to agencies, talent coordinators, business owners, hell just about anybody. These will go into files, go up on bulletin boards, etc... It is something that people can touch and feel and show other people when they have to. In reality, these comp/zed cards get you noticed more than any online service, to the people who are going to pay you.

A Compcard is usually 6 to 8 photos.

A Zedcard is usually 5 or 6 photos and smaller.

Hello and welcome to C.S. Dewitt Photography. My name is Chris Buck and I started my photography business about 10 years ago. I started it as C.S. Dewitt Studios. Consequently, you my see some of my past work imprinted with this watermark.

I'm a photographer that has been taking photos for over 25 years. I live in the Atlanta, Georgia Metro area (Tyrone, GA). I'm looking to increase my experience and get involved with more photographers and model, so I can shoot at a professional level. I'm currently available TFP, TFCD or TFDVD.

I'm available for models that need a portfolio started without all the upfront cost and/or for those that need a DIFFERENT look from another EYE/Photographer. Also, I'm available to shoot; Glamour, Fashion, Swim wear, Bikini, Lingerie, Implied Nude, Artistic Nude, Fetish, Nude, Outdoor and/or Facial Close Ups. I will shoot "Anything" a Model is willing to put in front of my LENS!!! I better say, "Almost Anything"!

I have been doing photography since I was 10 years old with my Polaroid One Step Camera. My dad was an avid videographer and photographer and I decided to continue his pastime. I then purchased a couple of film cameras before I purchased a Minolta 7000. At that time it was one of the Top Film Cameras on the market. I then bought my first digital, Fuji Finepix 3000, so I could keep more personal photographs of models in-house. Camera developing stores were starting to censor and people in the store were making multiple copies of photos. I did not want my models subjected to that. My most recent purchase was a Olympus Stylus 790SW. It's a camera I can use underwater and in the elements. My future purchase will be a Nikon D90, D300, Canon EOS 50D or the New EOS 7D. I will have to do some more research and talk with other photographers.

I have traveled the World and taken photos during my travels. I have been to Turkmenibashy, Turkmenistan, Guam and Saipan in the Northern Marianna Islands and Geoji Island, South Korea.

I look forward to networking with other photographers and models.
